Microsoft Windows | Active Directory | Multi-site | WAN Hawaii

A professional services firm needed a better way to connect offices across several islands in the State of Hawaii. It was decided that the data center will be on a different island than where most of the users will be because of various technological benefits.

Concerns that were addressed included the need for a centralized backup, LAN-like speeds for network logon and access, and voice-over-IP issues associated with WAN environments.

Most locations were configured with a single physical server running multiple virtual servers using Hyper-V. With MPLS, VPN tunnels were not needed, which kept latency very low. File Replication Services, part of Windows server operating system was implemented. Other servers such as SQL Server, SharePoint, and Exchange were strategically located to minimize network performance issues and help maintain a high availability environment.
