Microsoft Office 365 Hybrid Upgrade Hawaii Financial Services
A Hawaii-based Financial Services firm was running an old, legacy version of Microsoft Exchange server. When it was time to decide whether to upgrade to the latest on-premises versions, or look at hosting the Exchange server in the cloud, the costs and benefits leaned toward cloud-based Microsoft Office 365 hybrid upgrade strategy. The latest version of Windows Server running Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) server-class hardware was deployed and the Active Directory was upgraded and migrated from the legacy Windows server. Active Directory synchronization between the local, on-premises AD was set up with Microsoft Office 365. This allowed username and password synchronization between on-premises and Office 365, which meant that when the user’s password was changed on their local area network (LAN), the changes propagated to the cloud flawlessly. And adding or deleting a user account on the local server, also reflected the changes on the Office 365 admin portal. Using native tools that were built-in to Microsoft Exchange Server, the huge quantity of mailbox data was migrated over several days without downtime or email outages.…read moreMigrating to Microsoft Office 365
A real estate firm in Windward Oahu, Honolulu, Hawaii was considering migrating to Microsoft Office 365. The firm contacted High Performance Systems, Inc. to provide a cost analysis and assessment of their on-premises Microsoft Windows network servers providing for shared files, printing, remote access, and Exchange email. The servers, although were on-premises, were owned by the local IT vendor. For several thousand a month, the real estate firm were paying a monthly fee for the use of the servers and network services. Because the systems were not being expertly managed by certified Microsoft staff, the systems were "skipping a beat" periodically and there were no road maps of getting the latest version of the server operating system or Exchange email server. HPSi determined that the costs could be significantly decreased by subscribing to Microsoft Office 365 E1 and E3 plans. Using One Drive for Business, each user would have 1 terabyte (1,000 gigabytes) to store their files, with anytime, and anywhere access. SharePoint online, included with Office 365 would provide a method of sharing corporate…read moreMicrosoft Skype for Business Video Conferencing | SfB | Skype Online | Hawaii
The client had a need to provide video conferencing for offices across several islands in the State of Hawaii. Having experienced previous failures from other vendors with video conferencing, the selection of Microsoft Skype for Business was slowly implemented, going through multiple pilot phases. The major hurdles included connectivity via VPN tunnel on less than ideal 1 Mpbs connections, wireless bridges, and technically challenged users. The on-premises implementation costs for hardware and software were not significant because most of the network infrastructure were in-place - Exchange Server, SQL Server, Enterprise Certificate Server, and Windows Active Directory. With Microsoft Hyper-V, virtual servers were quick to setup and provided high availability with multiple Hyper-V servers. Office 365 licensing helped maintain a reasonable licensing cost. Skype, already user-friendly was easy to learn and use. Using non-proprietary cameras, microphones and video displays were added benefits over other room-based conferencing solutions from the past.read moreMicrosoft Windows | Active Directory | Multi-site | WAN Hawaii
A professional services firm needed a better way to connect offices across several islands in the State of Hawaii. It was decided that the data center will be on a different island than where most of the users will be because of various technological benefits. Concerns that were addressed included the need for a centralized backup, LAN-like speeds for network logon and access, and voice-over-IP issues associated with WAN environments. Most locations were configured with a single physical server running multiple virtual servers using Hyper-V. With MPLS, VPN tunnels were not needed, which kept latency very low. File Replication Services, part of Windows server operating system was implemented. Other servers such as SQL Server, SharePoint, and Exchange were strategically located to minimize network performance issues and help maintain a high availability environment.read more
